Abstract
The present paper describes the typhoon model developed by the group of Risk and Safety at ETH Zurich for the northwest Pacific region. First, the main features of the developed typhoon model are summarized, followed by a brief explanation of the approach employed for the development of the model. Then, the performance of the developed model is assessed in several ways by comparing with historical observations for the purpose of verification and validation. Finally, some applications of the typhoon model to decision situations that become possible due to the special features of the developed model are introduced.
