Abstract
An overview of a risk based methodology for the assessment and quantification of the robustness of structures is given in this paper. An illustrative and realistic application of the methodology highlights different intuitive aspects of the robustness of systems, such as damage tolerance, reliability and redundancy. The robustness is quantified using a generic Bayesian approach, including direct and indirect consequences. The results of the example show the potential of the framework. The various characteristics of robustness are consistently reflected by the robustness calculations.
