Durability and Service life of Concrete Structures – the Owners Perspective

Abstract
Measures for achieving and quantifying durability are described for the different phases throughout the service life of a concrete structure. The problem of ensuring and verifying durability is described from the owners perspective and risk based acceptance criteria are suggested to support the owners decision of acceptance of the structure when this is handed over from the contractor. It is illustrated how risk analysis may form the basis for setting the terms of contractual liability.
